It is challenging to conduct rigorous entrepreneurship research, even in an environment of peace and stability. Imagine conducting research in the midst of disruption incurred from a military conflict?
The GEM Ukraine Team pulled this off in publishing the GEM Ukraine 2023/2024 National Report. The team of Serhii Apalkov, Viktoriia Apalkova, Nataliia Meshko and Oksana Tarasiuk carried out an impressive 91 National Expert Surveys, most among any GEM Team for this research cycle. (Usually GEM National Teams conduct 40-50 National Expect Survey interviews each year). At times, interviews in Ukraine were being conducted in bunkers while drones flew overhead.
GEM Ukraine Team Leader Serhii Apalkov stated: “Joining the GEM project has been a landmark development for our country. It has offered Ukraine a unique opportunity to explore its entrepreneurial environment and gain insights that inform policy and resource allocation. This is a crucial step in supporting Ukraine’s recovery and growth.”
The research has been sponsored by Institute for Circular and Hydrogen Economy and the School of Management Fribourg (HEG-FR) Switzerland.
Apalkov noted: “This collaboration paves the way for important research, policy development and international partnerships that are essential for economic resilience and expansion.”
Congratulations to the GEM Ukraine Team!
