This report covers entrepreneurship in Canada’s four eastern provinces. Attitudes Overall, Atlantic Canadians see entrepreneurship as a good career choice, associate it with high status, and think it is awarded favourable status in the media and these generally exceed the national averages. Perceptions Atlantic Canada is consistent with the national average for knowing an entrepreneur but is lower in the assessment of perceived opportunities as compared to the national average. There are stronger perceived capabilities in the region compared to the national average. Fear of failure is slightly higher in the region than nationally, with PEI having the highest fear of failure and Nova Scotia the lowest in the region. Similarly, entrepreneurial intentions for Atlantic Canada are well below the national average. Activity Total Early-Stage Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) in Atlantic Canada is lower than the national average, with New Brunswick having the highest TEA and Newfoundland and Labrador the lowest in the region. For established businesses, PEI exceeds the national average, while Nova Scotia is comparable to the national average, and New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador are lower. However, when viewed through international comparison, Atlantic Canada outperforms the UK, Germany, Italy and Japan on TEA and is comparable on established businesses levels.. For Employee Entrepreneurship, commonly referred to as Intrapreneurship, Nova Scotia outperforms the national average, while Newfoundland and Labrador and PEI lag behind.
